In Sync

The October 2011 newsletter of the
Solent Club for Amateur Radio & Television

Hello again

I keep saying that I am not going to write any more “In Syncs” but it is noticeable that activity through IV is down (except for the ‘regulars’), so this is an attempt to get some of you ‘irregulars’ to wipe your camera lenses, give your electrolytics a chance to re-polarise and put some RF through the fat backsides of the pigeons that perch on your yagis!.

I have tried to anticipate a few ‘FAQs’ that you may ask – I hope that they are relevant (but as always, we need feedback so that “In Sync” is what you want):

How is IV performing now?

Very well thank you – its picture and sound quality is probably the best that it has ever been (with special thanks to Peter (G3PYB) our ‘Quality Controller’) but don’t take our word for it – give it a try yourself!.

How about reliability?

Very good at present - We did have a series of problems due to lightning strikes/power surges/power failures, also one of the float batteries developed internal shorts (but only after we had caught the return ferry)! – these came one after the other to the point where we were talking about “The Stenbury Curse” but thankfully it’s a long time since we had any of these sorts of problem and it’s worth noting that the Tx/Rx hardware never failed, as ‘The Curse’ only attacked the peripherals – but seriously, it should be remembered that this is an exposed site, so we are always likely to be susceptible to these types of problem.
