4) The LNBs have been difficult to obtain now that the Bob Platts source seems to have dried up. An alternative was found in Australia but these have only just arrived after a very long wait (which was apparently due to a holdup in the supply chain). The knock-on effect of this is that we have missed this year’s weather window but our intrepid team are undeterred and are getting their “long johns” ready for some work aloft on the next weekend when the forecast says that the weather will be suitable.
4) The intention is to devote this day to Peter’s 10GHz tests with Bournemouth whilst we press on with mechanical tasks as follows:
a)Wire brush the 23cm aerial frame on the tower and replace the failed layers of Hammerite with thick pitch-based paint.
b) Install the Bournemouth fixed dish on the triangular mast.
c) Remove the redundant aerials and booms on the triangular mast, also re-rig the spreaders and guys.
d) Install the new motorised boom assembly on the triangular mast, together with a new 70cm co-linear, the 10GHz LNBs, the pan/tilt unit, camera and steerable dish (if time permits).
e) Install, route and clip all cabling ready for the next stage of installing the equipment in the racks.
The next stage will also include mounting the 10GHz PA with Half-Slotted Waveguide Aerial plus cabling on the tower.
We know it’s rather early to wish you a Merry Christmas but we hope to do this in person at the SCART Dinner.
